Great post. I want to second how important talking to others can be. Usually, by the time I'm finished describing my bad mood/bad situation to a good friend, the gloom has begun to lift a bit.

I'd also add: Ride out the chemistry. Recognize that these overwhelming bad feelings, which seem to be based on the reality around you, are often triggered by a shift in brain chemistry. Ride it out, and in the meantime try to shift it back by getting enough sleep, exercising, and eating right.

Cheers Dayne, yeah negative thinking can be crippling and that reminds me of another thing that can help - affirmations, such as Emile Coue's famous one "<a href="http://presentoutlook.com/day-by-day-in-every-way-im-getting-better-and-better/">Every day in every way I'm getting better and better</a>".

I really loved this post! You really hit the nail on the head when it comes to beating depression. What I've learned over the years is that simply being mindful of depressive spells and not believing our thinking is key. We need to step back, ACCEPT how we feel down at that time, and leave it at that. We must realize "this too shall pass".

Thanks for the wonderful post! Great ideas!
